Position: Insurance Agent / CSR - PT

Our friendly, well established Independent Insurance Agency in Laurel, MD seeks a Part-Time professional Insurance Agent/CSR to work in our small yet busy office. Hours are flexible up to 18-24 hours per week. Applicants should have a current P&C Insurance license in good standing, a pleasant and friendly personality and excellent communication skills along with a positive attitude. Must enjoy working in a professional environment with great people. Bilingual applicants (English and Spanish) are encouraged to apply.

Position Responsibilities

This position’s primary responsibility is to provide service to existing policyholders including:

  • Assist personal line policyholders with general questions and problems, including coverage verifications, payment/billing questions, certificates of insurance, claims support and general coverage questions.
  • Make policy changes on personal line policies such as adding autos based upon client’s needs and subject to agency and company underwriting guidelines.  Some new policy sales may be required.
  • Re-underwrite existing accounts to assist the agency in meeting established goals and guidelines.
  • Make proactive renewal calls and correspondence with policyholders using professional communication skills.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have a current state P&C insurance license in good standing
  • Have a minimum of 2-4 years general office experience with at least 2 years working in an Insurance Agency, Carrier or in an insurance related field.
  • General working knowledge of Auto & Homeowners Insurance products and other Property/Casualty Personal Lines policies is necessary.
  • Effective communication skills including written, verbal and listening as well as professional customer service capabilities are a must.
  • Strong organizational and general understanding of office related equipment such as PCs, and application software including MS Word, E-mail, Adobe and spreadsheets are preferred.
  • Personal integrity, sound credit history and ability to work well with others are required. A background check will be performed prior to hire.

Education, Licensing & Appointment Requirements

  • Associates Degree required or equivalent experience.
  • A Maryland State P&C Insurance License 
  • Will need to get Appointed by Erie Insurance Group to sell and service Property Casualty insurance policies as well as other Carriers as required by the Agency
  • On-going training and education is required on an annual basis to meet Maryland Insurance Commission’s continuing education requirements.
